The collection of plays titled “Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind” was created and first performed in 1988 by conceptionist Greg Allen and fellow actors in the Chicago area. “Too Much Light” has been in continual performance ever since. The original plays were styled after Neo-futurism, in which each script is true to the facts of the performer-author’s life. In trying to keep with that tradition while still enabling professional and amateur groups to present the show, the 30 plays ready to hit the North stage are ones the cast can make their own, even though they are not the original authors. Many of the plays are about the ups and downs of relationships. Others are about the art of acting. Some focus on world issues as relevant today as they were in the years they were written. The interpretations of this cast, as they use their lived experiences to inform their performances, make “Too Much Light” a unique HSN Fall Drama event. Also unique is the audience participation feature. The order in which the plays are performed is different each time, determined by the choices of the audience on hand each night. Audience members are also incorporated into the plays themselves!
